About us

Eden Ceramics is a contemporary ceramics studio, based in central Auckland. You can expect a supportive environment centered around creativity, craftsmanship, patience, and community.

A calming, peaceful space where we can be fully present. Our aim is to create a mindful community, where we can come together and explore our artistic expression through clay. Learn and refine skills, appreciate the process of creation and foster a sense of belonging within an encouraging environment.

Who we are...

Richie Monk, instructor of pottery classes in Auckland

Richie

Founder and Tutor

My love of pottery began back in high school but became a true passion when I settled in New Zealand. The whole process of working with such an ancient, elemental art form is magical. I love experimenting with texture and shapes, often taking inspiration from the beautiful natural landscapes of Aotearoa and the other breathtaking places I've traveled. Working with clay brings so much joy and is always such a meditative process. Whilst on the wheel your mind and body are in a natural synergy, generating a flow state which leads to creating something unique and beautiful. The feeling of peace and being so focused is precious. I am so passionate to share that with others. We can become so distracted in this busy, modern world, so being fully present with anything you're truly passionate about is a beautiful thing. Pottery has also helped me focus and overcome many challenges in recent years.

I have since been on my own, ever continuing pottery journey.

Diego, instructor of pottery classes in Auckland

Diego

Co-creator and Tutor

Diego is a Colombian Architect who was first introduced to clay work during his university years. His passion for 3Dimensional objects and Architectural training found the perfect outlet for artistic expression on ceramics.
He enjoys exploring volumes and shapes that directly or incidentally reference the exuberant natural world of his hometown at the foothills of the Colombian Andes where the Amazon jungle meets and creeps up the impressive mountain range. This is why hand built, organic and irregular objects are the common theme on both his functional or sculptural pieces. However, his architectural training is noticeable in the handling of these organic shapes in a contemporary, abstract and many times technical way that always aims for innovative and visually pleasing designs.

Jino Jeong, instructor of pottery classes in Auckland

Jino

Tutor

Jino Jeong is an Auckland-based ceramicist. Jino was born in Seoul and trained in ceramics at Kyunggi University in South Korea. He then spent a year at the highly prestigious Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in China, the only dedicated university to ceramic arts in China.

Jino's work can be found in galleries and private collections here and overseas. He has been residing in New Zealand for 10 years and has received many recognised awards for his work during this time. Jino works from his studio experimenting with scale and glaze to create a unique body of work.
